I think that offering a separate giveaway, with a prize you provide, as a thanks for those who are willing to vote for you, is okay. I, personally, don't think I'll enter that giveaway (like I said, I'm kind of overly sensitive/empathetic with those who only get a few votes in these kinds of photo contests), but I don't think it's unethical to self-sponsor a prize in exchange for votes. :)April Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01362479795306777351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3963431970993007942.post-30111640801028874492012-05-06T08:43:45.468-04:002012-05-06T08:43:45.468-04:00Jennifer,

But as I think about it, I don't think it's ideal or of the utmost fairness. It doesn't bother me too much, but I echo the others who said that we'd be happy to vote for you if you just asked with no strings attached, or asked in a giveaway post for us to vote, but just as a way to say thanks instead of as a requirement to enter the giveaway. I can't guarantee you'd get quite as many votes, but you'd still get a lot (and more than people who don't have popular blogs where they can ask for votes). It's ultimately your decision though, and it's also the decision of your readers whether or not to enter by voting if they have a problem with it. But I suppose if that many people feel it's unethical, it is asking them to choose between their convictions and an opportunity to win.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16598875766176613455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3963431970993007942.post-71731092351731462532012-05-04T09:43:13.815-04:002012-05-04T09:43:13.815-04:00Yeah, I think it would be more fair to make all th...Yeah, I think it would be more fair to make all the entry methods worth the same amount.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16598875766176613455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3963431970993007942.post-74857072830558143372012-05-03T23:56:39.981-04:002012-05-03T23:56:39.981-04:00I think it is fine to ask infact i voted for you.I think it is fine to ask infact i voted for you.RAERAEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04449775946798382423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3963431970993007942.post-18279730588547388572012-05-03T18:21:18.529-04:002012-05-03T18:21:18.529-04:00You're right about Picket Fence. Asking your friends...I completely agree with Regan. Asking your friends and family to vote for you is simply requesting a favor. But even if YOU sponsor the giveaway, you're not just asking for a favor. You are offering them an actual tangible prize in exchange for their vote. That's where I think it crosses the line morally.

In addition, I do NOT feel it's not the same as a Picket Fence vote. Why? Because the reward for you cannot even compare to a $100 gift card.

And think of this - what if a lot of the mothers entering your giveaway were interested in entering the Thanks Mama contest, or some other photo contest? Not only does not every person have the time to enter, but what about contestants who don't have blogs to promote entries for themselves. I am very tired of all these popularity contests online, bc the biggest blogs always win, not necessarily the cutest photo or the best idea. Of course, everyone can do what they want with their giveaway entries, but I don't ask for votes, and I will not do a voting entry. Now if someone just asks for a favor vote in a group or on Facebook, that is okay bc it's not tied to winning something... Just my thoughts. :)"

I don't agree with asking for votes as a giveaway entry 1) because it should be about the brand you are promoting, not about you winning a giveaway for yourself and 2) wouldn't you want to win because people actually liked your photo and not because you bribed them? But that's not to say that if you don't do it then someone else will and will probably win that way. I also got kinda annoyed with the multiple reminders on facebook since it took up a good bit of my feed. That said, it's your blog and you do what you want, but maybe ask the sponsor what they think about that as a contest entry.Felicia Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08882141876224973365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3963431970993007942.post-51393054580081076832012-05-03T16:46:20.887-04:002012-05-03T16:46:20.887-04:00Asking a hundred or so friends to vote for you of ...Asking a hundred or so friends to vote for you of which only a few will is far different than asking almost 2000 people to vote and giving them something in return. Of course you will get more people to vote because they want something from you. It's not the same thing and it's unfair.

I have a blog and run giveaways and would never ask for votes. In that case, you aren't bringing a giveaway to us, the sponsor is through you. I don't do the contest entries because it's just not fair to the other people.
