"Birthday Blessings Bash" Red Barn {Nifty Nappy Growing Up Green} fitted diaper review and #GIVEAWAY {World-Wide)

If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know my ~~passion~~ ~~obsession~~, love for Red Barn {Nifty Nappy} cloth diapers!

I was able to review one on my nephew Ezra when he was just a few days old, and I recently reviewed their AI2 earlier in the "Birthday Blessings Bash" event! Now I am thankful to have the chance to be working with Jeni again (owner of Red Barn Cloth Diapers) to review her fitted diaper and woolie wrap for my 2 yo! I chose the winter ooga booga fitted and an argyle wool for the woolie wrap!

What I love about this diaper. I love that each diaper is hand-made by Jeni. Her work is absolutely superb! She pays very good attention to detail and that is reflected in each diaper. I love that these diapers are a one size diaper, designed to fit babies from 7-35 lbs.

The Nifty Nappy is just that, “Nifty”. It is a one size fits all for 7-35 lbs. This diaper is designed to be the only diaper you will need until you have potty-trained your young one! These are a great choice for those with more than one in diapers. Only one type of diaper and it will fit all CD’d babies in your house. YEAH!!! These diapers have a very trim fit, and are designed to fit under the belly. There should not be any sag in the bum.

This will fold in half and lay in the diaper

The Nifty Nappy has the snaps through all the layers of fabric so they won’t pull through. Plus the high quality resin snaps make diaper changing a SNAP -couldn’t resist!

Organic Bamboo Velour is 70% Organic Bamboo Viscous / 30% Organic Cotton
Organic Hemp Fleece is 45% Organic Hemp / 55% Organic Cotton
These make the Nifty Nappy…
■ Super absorbent with less bulk
■ Anti-bacterial
■ Anti-microbial
■ Very durable

Care:
For care of the fitted diaper simply dump the unwanted “objects” into the toilet. When washing do NOT use fabric softeners or detergents with enzymes. When drying you may dry in the dryer on a gentle cycle, but for longer life allow to air dry. For ammonia smell our secret is Tea Tree Oil; just 5-8 drops in a wash cycle

The woolie wraps are also a one size cover. I LOVE wool! It is the best thing (in my opinion) to get your hands on when you are cloth diapering! So many people are afraid of it or intimidated by how to care for your wool, but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO easy! Fitted diapers and wool are the ONLY thing we use at night to keep my 2 yo dry!

I love this diapering system! It really is fantastic. I really feel good about putting this diaper on my son when I know who has made it, where it came from and that it is such good quality!

The first thing I noticed about this diaper (besides the beautifully colorful print) was the softness of the inside of the diaper... can you see it?

The inside is made of 82% rayon from bamboo and 18% polyester! It is sooooo soft!

This diaper is AWESOME!! I did notice that it is a bit of a bigger diaper though (compared to my other hemp fitteds). The top of the diaper is designed to fold down in the front to fit smaller babies. This is how my 2 yo wears it, as when he wears it with the font not folded, it seems a bit frumpy on him (see pics below for comparison):

Since this diaper is a one-sized diaper and is made to fit babies 10-40 lbs, it will last a long time (though I do hope to have my 2 yo potty trained well before he hits 40 lbs) lol!

Bottom line: I LOVE this diaper!
Why? I love that it comes in snaps, it's a one size diaper, it has the 'tunnel system' which allows you to customize the absorbency (I put my Thirsties hemp insert inside the tunnel for nap-time and had no issues with leaks, and on this particular day, my son slept for 3hrs and 45 minutes!! Hello Growth Spurt)! I LOVE and really admire that it is made in the USA! I also really love the print! There are some other really cute prints and colors available too. You can view them here! Oh, did I mention how affordable they are? You can purchase this diaper for only $15.75!

"Birthday Blessings Bash" Northern Essence wool care and body care products review and 1 full size item #GIVEAWAY {US and Canada}

Northern Essence is a shop where you can find so many useful and unique items. They offer products for the whole family from baby care items (soaps, lotions cloth diapers and more) to items for mom's to be, and even items for dad. I was sent several samples from Northern Essence for my review. This is what I received:

From the top left clockwise: Wool wash bar in 'buttermilk bath' whipped lotion, wool wash liquid in 'lavender breeze' Baby sudz soap, and whipped shea.
I used the wool wash bar on my Sloomb knit wool cover. It is Awesome! You simply run some warm water into a basin and rub the bar under the running water. You can also rub the bar directly onto the wool if there are stains or strong odors. I then used the 'wool wash' (far right) after I had washed the wool. I rinsed the residue out from the wool wash bar, then filled the basin with warm water again. I mixed 1 tsp of the wool wash liquid into the basin of water, added the clean sloomb cover and gently squeezed it to ensure all the fibers were saturated (I lanolize my wool inside out). Left it to sit for about 30 minutes then gently removed the excess water by rolling the sloomb cover in a clean, dry towel.
The wool wash liquid left the wool feeling clean and lightly scented with lavender. It's great. I highly recommend it!
The whipped lotion (top middle) I threw in my purse as I was running out the door to the store (it is the perfect size for my purse or the diaper bag). As I was driving I realized how dry and cracked my skin was (the weather was cold and dry and my skin always suffers for it)! I quickly put a dab of the whipped lotion on my skin and found instant relief. Not only did it hydrate and smooth my skin, but it stayed on for quite awhile. After the store, we went to the library then came home. It wasn't until I washed my hands before preparing lunch that I noticed the lotion was actually washing off! So I put on more! This lotion also works great on my boys! It soothes their dry skin really well. My eldest has severe dry winter skin. This is where the whipped shea comes in. I love this stuff. It is a thick substance that kind of reminds me of crisco, but different (you get the point how thick this stuff is)! I applied it on my son's legs for 2 nights directly after his bath and within 2 days his skin was totally fine. No more dry, itchy red bumps, just soft smooth skin!
The Baby Sudz soap became my 4 yo's 'special soap' (we get him a little bar of special goats milk soap from the organic store here in town for him to use after he uses the potty). He claimed the Baby Sudz as his very own soap and used it all up within 2 weeks! Need I say any more about the soap?

This diaper is AWESOME! I LOVE it! I love that it is a one size fitted diaper that can be used from about 10-35+ lbs! The outer is a cotton woven material and the inner is a organic bamboo velour material. Here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure:

As you can see the two layer soaker simply snaps to the back of the diaper.
This diaper is not water-proofed and does need a cover. However I used it on my 2 yo without a cover during the day and just changed him when the out side of the diaper became damp!
This diaper fits my 2 yo perfectly!

Ok, so since the insert is bamboo, it takes some prepping. Sometimes I get overwhelmed at the different fibers and how to care for them... ie: separating hemp from all other fabrics until its prepped to prevent your diapers from repelling and so on. But Blissful Booty makes it simple by sending along these easy-to-follow instructions:

Ok, I tried this diaper on my 2 yo with the microfiber insert only. It worked GREAT!

Then after prepping the bamboo I used it, along with the microfiber during nap time... no leaks. My little guy is constantly sipping water, and he naps once a day for 2-3 hours! So for him to wake up dry from nap is a total plus. I think this diaper would really hold up well during the night too. I mean, you could customize it (as with any pocket diapers) with any kind of stuffin' you'd like. You could use a hemp insert or doubler, with the bamboo for extra absorbancy. The opportunities are endless. This is one other reason I like pocket diapers so much!

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time you know how important it is to me to provide my family with all things organic whenever possible!
Both my boys sleep on Naturepedic organic mattresses, and I've even got a few organic crib sheets (review to come later)!

This diaper fits my 2 yo son perfectly!

I love that this diaper is wide enough to fit hemp inserts inside. I'm a huge hemp fan and have basically switched out all my microfiber inserts to hemp. I'm a huge fan of Thirsties hemp and Babykicks hemp inserts as well. One thing I have found with the new Fuzzi Bunz elites is that they are very narrow in the crotch area and are not wide enough to fit hemp inserts into (which is a huge disappointment to me)!

This diaper is unlike any I've ever tried (or seen before) simply because of it's envelope style. It is designed in such a way that you don't need to remove the insert from the diaper on wash day, you simply throw the whole thing in the wash and it will agitate out in the wash.
This diaper fit my 2 yo great. We had no problems with leaks (although I did not test it out overnight as I only used fitteds and wool covers). The inside of the diaper is very soft. I will say the one thing I encountered with this diaper is the poo factor. My son pooped in this diaper the second time he wore it, and since the envelope flaps are pretty loose, the poop got inside the diaper and it was pretty messy to clean up. Not like on a regular diaper where the diaper is one solid strip of fabric and you can simply knock the solids off into the toilet. In this case, the poop went under and inside the flaps. I had to get out the old rubber gloves and give it a swish in the toilet to get all the poop off, which is really no big deal, especially if you have a diaper sprayer (which I do not)! :)

The diaper suds are great. I used them to wash this diaper and also used it on my regular clothes. The diaper suds get clothes and diapers alike looking fresh and clean, it really gets the job done. Here's the list of ingredients for the diaper suds:
Sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium percarbonate

As for the rash cream. I did use it on my son when he had a slight diaper rash and it helped soothe his bum within the first day. I will also say that this diaper cream will discolor your diapers and for this reason I used a disposable diaper when using the cream (as I do when using any other kind of cream)!

We bought my eldest son a tricycle when he was just over 3 years old. I noticed that he would sit on the tricycle, and move his legs along the cement in order to get going. He was not interested in pedaling AT ALL! So this year, for his 4th Birthday I wanted to move him up a notch from a tricycle to a big boy bike. I am so super excited to once again be working with Heather from Modern Cloth to bring you a review of the all new Bumgenius FreeTime AIO one size diaper!

So what is different? Oh, just wait until you see the inside of the diaper:

Both flaps are sewn to the diaper but are loose on one end (which will make for a much faster drying time). They are also sewn twice in each flap horizontally!
My thoughts:
I LOVE this diaper. I tested it on my 2 yo during his nap-time yesterday (which amazingly lasted about 3 hours)! When he woke up I changed him right away expecting him to be wet. His clothes were dry and the diaper was wet, but still felt squishy! I love this diaper!
If you are familiar with the old BG AIO and like/love them, then you really need to try the new Free Time!

Many of you know I LOVE fitted diapers and wool covers. Since I've been using cloth I've come across some of my favorite brands. One of which is Nifty Nappy. Nifty Nappy diapers are now made by Jeni over at Red Barn Cloth Diapers! Jeni does fabulous work and I was so excited when Jess agreed to send me a Red Barn Nifty Nappy AI2 cloth diaper in "Corduroy" for me to review. This is what I received:

I really like the fact that the insert is sewn together at the top. This saves me having to fold it in thirds before laying it on top of the diaper for use:

Our inserts have the the wonderful qualities of Hemp and Bamboo absorbency. The inserts are made with a layer of Organic Hemp Fleece and a layer of Organic Bamboo Velour. Sewn in “fortune cookie” fashion they are easy to wash and quick to dry.

Care

Nifty Nappy™ AI2 diapers have a layer of PUL in them. To care for them simply dump the unwanted “objects” into the toilet. When washing do NOT use fabric softeners or detergents with enzymes. When drying you may dry in the dryer on a gentle cycle, but for longer life allow to air dry. The PUL might need to be resealed occasionally, to do this simply throw in the dryer on the hot cycle. Don’t do this more than once a month."

This diaper fits my 2 yo perfectly! Sadly, I was unable to take a picture of this diaper on my son before posting this review! Both boys were a bit under the weather and whenever I put a diaper on my son and pick up my camera, well, he makes a run for it. It's like we are playing tag or something! This makes for very blurry pictures! We have used it for about 2 days now and yes, even at nap-time!
We have had no issues with this diaper as far as leaks or other problems. I love the fact that this diaper is so stinkin' cute, and functional. I also really appreciate that fact that this diaper was hand made by Jeni herself. Jeni does fabulous work and I can tell you first hand that these diapers are just about identical to the work that Vilate (from Nifty Nappy) does! You will not be disappointed.

I contacted Pooters in hopes of them sponsoring this event! The owner of Pooters Cloth diapers Majaliwa was kind enough to send me a Pooters one size fitted cloth diaper in hemp for my review. This is what I received:

This is a picture of the inside of the diaper. Like many other fitteds, the diaper comes with an insert that snaps into place and it also comes with a lay-in booster!

You simply snap the insert into place and fold the insert to the desired size, and then lay the booster where needed:

OUR STORY

Who are we really? Picture this: one man, one woman, three children, and one dog, nestled in a home in the mountains of Colorado. In 2010 we went in search of a dryer system that would dry our cloth goods, especially our little one’s cloth diapers. So we set to invent and create. Our cloth diapers needed to be air dried but this process took too long in the colder months and those cloth diapers didn’t look very attractive hanging on the side of the crib or over a shower rod in the bathroom. Washing cloth diapers every other day needed a better “line dry system”.

We realized we could use the heat of our home for drying by creating something that was both beautifully visually and fine-tuned functionally. We found that all the products on the market simply didn’t meet this combination. We knew we needed to turn an idea into a product many families could benefit from. With careful research and design we took this vision to a new level and began testing baby, children and adult clothing and found that Dryerpods were able to dry goods for all ages but the size of the pod needed to be specialized, so we expanded with four different pods.

I'm loving this Birthday Blessings bash event. Yesterday we had a party for my *sigh* now 4 yo son. I really can't believe he is 4! So inquizitive and such a blessing to our family. The thing that really caught my eye with this diaper was the snaps! Just look at all those snaps:

This is a one-size diaper designed to fit babies from 8-35 lbs!
It has a generous pocket opening in the back which is really nice if your hubby likes to help stuff diapers!

It fit my 2 yo perfectly! (Although I must admit it is getting more difficult to take pictures of him modeling the diapers. He likes to run around the house and play 'tag' whenever I have the camera in my hands)!

It is a great toy, it inspires creativity and imaginary play. I will say though that there were no instructions that came with the set and by my following the picture on the box, after it was all put together, it seemed that the pieces did not fit flush. Not sure what happened there. Maybe I need to just fuss with it a bit more (it was a long day) and see if I can get smooth sailing.
Overall, my boys love this set. I love that it is made of wood (trying to get rid of all plastic in our home) and I love that most matchbox cars fit on the roadway (as well as the items included in the set)!

"Birthday Blessings Bash" Soft Bums Omni in SNAPS #CLOTHDIAPERS Review and #GIVEAWAY {US only}

Those of you that have been around here for awhile know that I am a snap-happy kinda girl. That is to say I prefer #clothdiapers with snaps, as opposed to Velcro/Hook and Loop. It is so annoying to me to wash a load of diapers only to find that the Velcro from some diapers have come undone from the 'laundry tab' and have attached themselves to all the other lovely fluffy diapers in the wash. Oh, and then there is the joy of trying to pull all the lint and hair (and whatever else gets stuck in the Velcro) out so your diaper will adhere properly!! Sorry (to those of you that love your Velcro...)!

Cotton weave on the outside, with one layer of bamboo fleece, a hidden layer of waterproof PUL (polyurethane laminate) and soft cotton velour inner.

Front-snapping closure with snap-down rise for adjustability. Crossover snaps for your smaller baby.

2 snap-in soakers (sewn together and snapped to the bottom of the diaper) included, constructed of 4 layers total of bamboo fleece and 2 additional layers of cotton velour to match the diaper's inner fabric.

In this picture (below) you can see the two snap in soakers and the additional booster insert which are all made of bamboo fleece and cotton velour (which is so stinkin' soft against your baby's bum)! I love that the soakers are made with bamboo too because its a natural, sustainable fiber that is very absorbent!

I really love this diaper. It looks like a fitted, but has the hidden layer of waterproof PUL so there is no need for a cover. Why would anyone want to cover up this beauty any how?
Ok, this diaper fit my 2 yo perfectly! The following pictures were taken with the snap in soaker and the additional booster (so the bum looks a bit fluffy, but in a good way) :)

I ~~LOVE~~ ADORE this diaper! It does take a bit of prepping to get it to full absorbency, but it is so worth it. You can use it while you are prepping it too. Oh, and the diaper can be thrown into the dryer too! Amazing. I only ever put my hemp (fitteds and inserts) and my microfiber in the dryer, I NEVER have put a diaper in the dryer, until now!

"The new AMP one size Duo pocket diaper (patent pending) is a revolutionary new diaper that combines both the benefits of the AI2 diaper and the pocket diaper all in a one size. The intelligent snap placement allows this diaper to have three different rise options and multiple tummy and thigh settings for a custom fit from birth to potty training (7-38lbs). The outer waterproof layer is a soft durable laminated PUL and the inside is a dreamy soft layer of micro fleece that is designed to wick wetness away and keep baby dry and comfortable. The envelope opening is large enough for easy stuffing and is placed at the front of the diaper to make removing the insert easy and mess free.

To use snap the rise adjusting snaps to the appropriate setting and place insert inside the diaper. Place the diaper under baby and fasten the tummy and thigh snaps at a snug but comfortable position.

This diaper is AWESOME! It is one of my favorite diapers in my stash right now! I love that it is designed to fit babies from 7-38 lbs and that it's a pocket diaper with the ability to be used as an AI2! This is a very versatile diaper and it is made very well. This diaper has stood up to the rough play of both my boys and I have not had one single leak or blow out (lovin' the hemp insert)! I've even used this diaper (as a pocket) on my son at night and he woke up dry! The fleece lining is so soft and keeps your baby feeling dry!

All Things Diapers is a brick and mortar store, as well as an online retailer located in MN. They run a cloth diapering service as well as offer many cloth-diapering related items for sale!
All Things Diapers graciously sent me a Grovia AI2 hybrid shell in "cloud" and an organic cotton soaker pad for review. This is what I received:

So you can simply snap the soaker pad right into the shell:

As you can see from the picture above, the inside of the shell is made of a mesh-type fabric.
Here is some more information about the Grovia AI2 (taken from All Things Diapers' website):
"How does GroVia work?
GroVia is designed so that the outer shells may be used for multiple diaper changes. If the soaker pad is wet, simply snap in a fresh one and you are ready to go. If the shell is wet, allow it to air dry and use for the next diaper change. When your GroVia Shell is soiled or very saturated, start fresh with a new GroVia Shell.

Most GroVia System users will find that using 2-4 GroVia Shells are enough per day, although newborn babies may need more.

How does the one-size feature on my GroVia work?

I really like this diaper. It is different than anything I had tried before, but I really like the ease of snapping in the soaker pad to the shell and simply unsnapping the soaker pad for changes. You can use the same shell over again as long as it is not soiled.

This diaper fit my 2 yo very well:

We did not experience any red marks, leaks or any other issues with this diaper.

This diaper can also be used with a Grovia stay dry soaker pad which are made with a TPU outer, four layers of hemp/cotton blend topped with cozy micro fleece, and ultra soft leg gussets.

Earth, Mom and Baby is a Canadian company that specializes in natural products for babies! Here is a bit of information about Earth, Mom and Baby (taken from their website):

Earth, Mom and Baby generously sent me a Bumboo fitted diaper for review. This is what I received:

At first I was a little bit intimidated by this diaper, I mean look at all those snaps!!

Then I saw this awesome video tutorial on the Bumboo diaper!

Here is a bit more information about the Bumboo diaper (taken from Earth, Mama and Baby website):

This diaper is completley compostable and biodegradable! Wow!
This diaper fit my 2 yo great!

This diaper is not water-proofed and does need a cover. We tried it at night underneath a wool cover and experienced no problems with leaks or other issues. This diaper does need to be washed 10 times before maximum absorbency is reached!

Fuzzi Bunz Elite Review and $10 GC #GIVEAWAY {Cloth Diapers Inc.} US and Canada

I love Cloth Diapers Inc. I have worked with them in the past on reviews for the blog! Cloth Diapers Inc. is a fabulous company to work with (and shop with), with wonderful, helpful staff and superb customer service. When I contacted them about sponsoring the Birthday Blessings Bash, Cloth Diapers Inc. generously sent me a new Fuzzi Bunz elite one size cloth diaper for review. This is what I recieved:

As with all FuzziBunz one size diapers, the diaper comes with two inserts (a large and a small) and a set of replacement elastics:

So what makes the Elite different from the original FuzziBunz one size?
There are a few differences!
First thing I noticed when I opened the diaper was the minky inserts. They are not like the old microfiber inserts. The new minky inserts are very soft to the touch! The minky inserts also produce less odor and staining compared to microfiber! The minky inserts have the same amount of absorbency as the microfiber but also have an antimicrobial properties!
The Elite diapers are a bit smaller in size!
There is also a difference in the snaps! The elite still has the same row of 8 snaps on the top, but on the bottom row of snaps instead of 8 there are now only 6!

The elite are also made with 'quick dry fleece' so that your baby feels dryer longer! FuzziBunz claims that the new fleece is non-pilling!!
The other major difference with the Elite diaper is that the adjustable elastic has been changed. Yes, you can still easily adjust these diapers to fit your baby one sized! Now, the adjustable elastic for the legs is located underneath the fleece.

I love the super soft minky inserts and I love the new trimness of the Elite. It is a trim diaper! Here is how the diaper fit on my 2 yo:
