#NBFluffNStuff BumGenius Flip cloth diapering system review and #GIVEAWAY {Diva Diapers} US only

I was curious about different kinds of cloth diapers that would be great to use on a newborn (or any baby for that matter)! I'd been familiar with pocket diapers and all in ones, and also all in twos. So I was thrilled when I received the green light from Diva Diapers to review the Flip diaper which is considered a hybrid diaper (an all in two)!
I was sent a one size Flip cover in the color 'bubble' with Velcro closure and an organic insert. This is what I received:

Wash: Use laundry tabs if available. Wash darks separately. Pre-wash cold. Wash hot (100F/40C) with bumGenius detergent. Extra rinse.
No laundry additives. Line dry. No fabric softeners. Use ¼ cup or 60 mL bleach in the hot wash once per month.

I really like this system. It makes perfect sense to me and I think it would be the diaper I would take if I were going on a trip somewhere! It is so EASY to use. You simply fold the organic insert into thirds and lay inside the flip cover and then put the diaper on your baby!
That's it!!

I do admit it is a bit bulky, but keep in mind my little girl was not even 8 lbs when this picture was taken! Being that it's a one size cover, it's meant to fit a baby from 8-35 lbs! It fit her great at just under 8 lbs

Let's talk all in one, one size cloth diapers!! Tots Bots Easy fit!
I am really loving using all in ones this time around. The Bumgenius xs AIO seems to be the diaper I reach for most often! Then I discovered Tots Bots Easy Fit! These diapers.... not only are they super cute, trim, absorbent, easy to use (daddy and daycare friendly) but they are made in the UK!!! Right there in Glasgow Scotland! Now, I knew I needed to try one! My father (who passed away nearly 5 years ago from pancreatic cancer) was born in England!! His family migrated to the USA when he was a teenager! So I immediately felt a desire to have one of these.
Bummis first sent me a chicken little printed diaper but one of the snaps would not stay snapped. I contacted Bummis immediately and within 2 days I was sent a new diaper!! The second time around I received the Jack and the Beanstalk print!
This is what I received:

I quickly fell in love with this diaper!!
I mean besides how well it fit my little bitty and how absorbent, trim and adorable it is!!!

More than how much I love the look of this diaper, and the fact that it was made in the UK, I LOVE the fit! It fit my tiny girl perfectly!

Let's talk wool! I am a HUGE fan of wool and natural fibers. In fact, fitted diapers and wool covers were the only thing that worked for me with my two boys for nap time and night time leak proof protection! I swear by the combination. But for a newborn??? I mean, you'd expect to be up every 2 hours feeding, changing and praying the little baby went back to sleep... right?
And, with all the frequent diaper changes (every 2 hours) how could a fitted diaper and wool come in handy if it's meant for 'heavy wetters?'
Well! I used my Babykicks hemp fitted diaper on my baby girl, paired with this beautiful Babee Greens wool cover that I was sent to review from Diaper Daisy!!

I was sent a gender neutral cover because at the time I contacted Diaper Daisy I had not yet had my baby girl, and since she was a surprise gender birth....

I LOVE this cover. For a newborn!!! YES!! Absolutely!!
Allison is such a great baby. I nurse her at about 7/7:30 at night and she sleeps in a bassinet in our room, right next to me. When she wakes up for her night feed (not every 2 hours Praise the Lord) at around 12-2 am I feed her and put her straight to bed WITHOUT CHANGING HER DIAPER!!! I know right. It is so nice that this cover will last throughout the night and that I DON'T have to change my baby in the middle of the night, and wake her up when she is so sound asleep!!
Love the fit too!! The size medium (which is what I was sent) is meant to fit a 15-25 lb baby. It fit my tiny girl (probably around 8-ish lbs when I took this picture) perfectly on the smallest setting and underneath the hemp fitted diaper!!

It's awesome! In fact, it's so awesome, that since I received this wool cover, I was overcome with the desire to own one with a bit of pink and I bought a CASHMERE size small from a local gal! Better yet, she only charged me $20 for it and the cashmere covers cost $36.95 brand new!!! It is soooo soft!! I am in love!

Here is a little more information on this cover (taken from Diaper Daisy's website):

"Wool is a natural fabric made from the coat of sheep. It has the capacity to both absorb and resist moisture.  The inner layer, or cortex, is hydrophilic, or absorbent. It is capable of retaining up to 35 percent of its weight in moisture. The exterior layer of wool is coated in lanolin.  Lanolin creates a natural, waxy water shedding layer.  This also helps make wool fiber resistant to stains.

Wool is also breathable and allows for maximum circulation around your baby's bum. Air circulation helps prevent diaper rash as well as alleviates the health concerns of trapped heat within a diaper.

Wools natural elasticity means your baby's diaper cover will fit well and move with your baby's movement making it comfortable and efficient.

Using Wool Diaper Covers

Wool diaper covers and longies are easy to care for because wool does not need frequent laundering. The lanolin in the wool combined with the ammonia in urine create it's own soap. One way to know if your cover or longies need laundering (outside of being soiled) is if the urine smell does not go away after airing dry. This means the lanolin has worn thin and has lost most of its waterproofing as well.
Wool covers require hand washing. Wash gently in lukewarm water with a mild soap. After washing, soak cover in warm water with lanolin for at least 30 minutes (or overnight). Roll in a towel to remove excess water and lay in a warm place to dry.

When I first heard that bumgenius {BG} had redesigned the elemental I was a bit excited. I received a new style BG elemental in the mail for my review. This is what I received:

 

 

Looks basically the same as the old style right? It is an all in one diaper, which is a one size (designed to fit babies from 8-35 lbs). So what's the difference?

Here is the kicker! The major difference between this diaper and the other was that the old style was lined with organic cotton, as seen here:

So in the picture below, under the organic cotton layers (which I am holding up) there was a soft layer of organic cotton on the inside of the diaper (as seen above)!
Not any more. Now there is a PUL material with no natural fiber covering the diaper at all!
It basically is a flip cover with attached organic cotton to it.

This diaper did not fit my little girl right away after she was born. She was a tiny (6 lbs 8 oz) baby at birth and actually went down to 6.1 at one week of age! Since this diaper was made to fit a baby 8+lbs I tried it on her again around 6 weeks.

It fit her pretty good.

 No gaps around the legs :)

 

I honestly like the old style BG Elemental better. I'm not a huge fan of the PUL being directly in contact with her delicate skin :( My baby girl's legs got a bit red when she was wearing this diaper. I am assuming that's where her skin came in direct contact with the PUL!

I LOVE that the inside is made of organic cotton! This is probably my most favorite part about this diaper. I am a HUGE natural fibers fan!

That being said, I would be so happy if Cotton Babies brought back the old style BG elemental.
