I have not yet started cloth diapering. My baby is due in October, though he will be my 3rd, he's the first cloth diapered. I think I will prefer pockets.

ReplyDeleteWe started CDing this past February. I ordered prefolds at the end of January. Our baby was 5 months old then. We put him 100% into cloth within 2 days of using them. Our 2 1/2 year old was transitioned into cloth the following month. We had to do it for financial reasons. The month after we started, our suburban died on us, and now the money we are saving with cloth EVERYTHING in our house, is making our new car payment. We are getting way better gas mileage with the van, so I can't complain too much actually LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't decide what I like the most. I change my mind every single day. I LOVE flats and prefolds with covers. I love pockets. I love my single BG Freetime. I love hemp. I just upcycled my first wool (Soakers and longies) but made them too big, so we are waiting on the wool for a bit. I love it all. Everything about it.
We have discovered that our baby also has super sensitive skin, so CDing has worked in our favor in the long run! My ONLY regret, was that I wish I would have started with my first child 11 years ago, rather than starting with our fifth (and probably LAST!)

ReplyDeleteWe tried CDing with DD#1 and failed, but DD#2 left us no choice. She kept having horrid contact derm with yeasty rashes back to back, so when she was 8 months we quit sposies cold turkey and never looked back!!! She turned 15 months today and is (mostly) rash free!! Once we found the right system to work for us it became so easy!!!!
ReplyDeleteStarted using CDs when my son was 4 months and had diaper rash SINCE BIRTH that wouldn't go away. The money savings was a huge plus as well...I had no idea how addicting it would get! We use a combination of bumGenius, kawaii, and Thirsties.

ReplyDeleteI have been using cloth for 1.5 years. I have a few favorites! Some days I love prefolds and covers and the next day I am all about pockets! :-) We switched when my son was wetting through disposables at night and I refused to pay for overnight pull-ups for him, plus, our next baby was on the way and putting BOTH of them in disposables was just not a cost I wanted to think about, let alone try to handle.
ReplyDeleteWe have been using cloth since my son was born 8.5 months ago. I thought about it with my daughter but was overwhelmed with the options. I did a newborn rental with my son and it was a great way to try cloth without committing to too much! And the rental came with step by step instructions! I couldn't screw it up!!

My babysitter is so great and has no problems with cloth.. so I might be able to get her to use the AI2's, but pockets are just easier for grandparents.

She is now potty trained (she's 4) and we still put her in a trainer at night because it seems every time we don't she wets and since she sleeps with us...I don't like changing sheets in the middle of the night! LOL We are still TTC so hopefully one day God blesses us with another and I already have a stash built up! I plan on CDing full time with our next!

ReplyDeleteI have wanted to CD for a long time, but my husband was never on board. With baby #4, I bought a couple of AIOs, but they were really bulky and my husband really hated them. With baby #5 (born this past June) we were given several AIOs that are much trimmer and my hubby actually likes them. I wanted to switch for financial and environmental reasons. Plus, these new ones have a minky lining that looks just so comfy :)
