The Laundry Tarts Review and #GIVEAWAY {US/Canada}

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you will know that I love, adore, ok am obsessed with cloth diapers! With that, comes laundry! Oh, the never ending loads of laundry! Now that I only have one in cloth diapers, I only wash a load every 2-3 days or so! But man, my boys are messy! I'm not sure if it's children in general or just boys! It seems that every time we eat a meal, I have to change their clothes! Oh, then if they go out back to play, the normally come in covered in fresh cut grass, dirt, mud whatever they can find to get into! I love it though, I wouldn't change it for the world!
When I received the opportunity from Crystal and Brian over at Nature Bumz to review The Laundry Tarts I was thrilled. This is what I received:
Three samples of The Laundry Tarts Laundry Detergent in Banana Bread, Birthday Cake and Plain Jane unscented, a sample of Strip It, and a Sweet Spot Stain Remover Stick!
I used the Strip it first of all!
Strip it is designed to take all sorts of residual build up out of your clothes and cloth diapers. In fact, it is recommended to use Strip It if you are switching from another brand of detergent in order to remove everything from your clothes/diapers before using Laundry Tarts!
The instructions on the sample pack of Strip It said to use the whole bag, but when I checked the Laundry Tarts website, it stated that only 2 Tablespoons were needed, so I followed the online instructions, which are: (taken from The Laundry Tarts website):
"Directions for Strip it!:

Directions: Pre-rinse garment in cold water. Dissolve 2 tbsp of Strip it! In 8-10 gal of warm/hot water (soft water requires 1 tbsp). Soak rinsed garments in the solution for 1 hr, stirring occasionally to loosen embedded residues. Drain solution and rinse items thoroughly. WARNING: This product is intended to treat built up residues, odor causing bacteria; only use as required and do not use more than recommended or soak overnight. For BEST results, soak in basin or large area. Washing machines may be used if there is enough water to do a sufficient soak. Although our products are very natural, they do contain soap ingredients which may irritate eyes should contact occur; for this reason, please keep away from pets and children. and flush with warm water should this happen."
Once the Strip It cycle was complete, I used the Birthday Cake scented detergent on my cloth diapers!
Instructions (taken from The Laundry Tarts website):
Directions For Detergents:

"TOP LOADERS: For small loads use 2 tbsp. For medium to large loads, use 4 tbsp. For heavy or stubborn stains, soak for 1 hr or make a paste with water and scrub lightly with natural bristle scrubbing pad.

HE MACHINES AND FRONT LOADERS: Energy efficient machines use 1/3 less water than traditional top loaders making them better for the environment by saving water and less energy. Less water means less soap. Use 1 tbsp for small loads and 2 tbsp for med-large loads. If needed, dissolve detergent in ¼ cup of warm water for machines requiring liquid detergents. Caution: Do not overload your machine with heavily soiled items; doing so may require an additional rinse for proper soap and water dispersal.

CLOTH DIAPERS/CLOTH MENSTRUAL PADS: After a cold water wash or rinse to remove any particles, use a warm water wash with the above instructions based on your machine type. When switching detergents, always do a cloth diaper strip to avoid any residue or conflicting ingredient combining with other detergents. For cloth diaper stripping, ammonia or odor causing bacteria check out our Strip it! Formula.

VINTAGE/DELICATES: Hand wash or soak items for 15-30 minutes. Cold water wash. Hand to dry. For small delicates, wash in lingerie or mesh fabric bag.

HARD/SOFT WATER: Our detergents are formulated for city and hard water, simply use half the amount recommended for soft water.

CAUTION: Always keep your cleaning products, including laundry detergents away from pets and children. Although our products are very natural, they contain soap ingredients and may cause eye irritation should contact with eyes occur; flush with warm water should this happen. Our detergents should not be ingested, despite how delicious it may smell. Refrain from sticking head directly in bag."
The laundry room smelled so yummy I thought I could just hang out in there for a little while enjoying the smell, but no, I had to get back to my 2 littles that seem to 'need me' ever so much more now that daddy is away! :)
I was kinda toying with what to use the Sweet Spot stain remover stick on, until my boys solved that issue for me. We have had the same sofa since we were married (almost 10 years now)! It is really time to replace it. We had been coloring for most of the morning and (probably while I was going pee) left them alone *at the kitchen table* for 5 minutes, came out to find this:
And this:
So, I took out the stain remover stick and went to work. I filled a little cup with warm water, dabbed the end of the stick sample in the water and rubbed it on the crayon marks and the other gross saliva looking marks on the sofa (don't know why but my dog *love her* a yellow lab seems to jump up on the sofa and make herself at home whenever I go out, unless I put a few laundry baskets in her way)! So those are probably what those other gross looking marks are... dog saliva Yuck!
Anyhow, this was the result immediately after rubbing the sofa with the stick:

You can see that the crayon marks are completely gone.
So then, after rubbing the stains with the stick, I filled up my bathtub with hot water and a tablespoon of the Birthday Cake detergent, and let it soak:
It soaked for a good hour or so, and this was the result:

Then I did a normal wash in the washing machine and this was the final result:
Amazing! The sofa covers came out so clean and the stain stick totally took out all the crayon and the yucky unidentified stains as well!
I really like The Laundry Tarts detergent. Want to know why?
For one, the scents are made with all natural essential oils, and their products to NOT contain any of the following (taken from The Laundry Tarts Website):

"Chlorine:
Chlorine is very irritating to the skin. It dries out the skin's natural oils and can cause rashes, hives, soreness and irritation to the eyes, lungs and mucus membranes.

Phosphates:
Phosphates are made from a phosphorus base, which is a very important mineral for plants and animals. Excess phosphorus into rivers, lakes and fresh water can offset the delicate balance of biology and produce an excess of algae and bacteria, making water inhabitable for aquatic life, unsuitable for swimming or ingesting.

Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate (SLS/SLES):
SLS/SLES, is a skin irritant and is absorbed into the skin very easily. Like many other commercial ingredients, it is also a xenoestrogen, making its way to the bloodstream potentially causing hormonal imbalances in the body.

EDTA:
EDTA is used as a preservative in cosmetics, food, chelation therapy, the textile industry and pulp mills as well as in laundry detergents for treating hard water. EDTA is more harmful to the environment and can as a hormone disrupting agent according to large study groups.

Phthalates:
Phthalates are synthetic fragrance enhancers which can be irritating to asthma sufferers, cause headaches, migraines, dizziness and are being linked to disrupting hormone levels, feminizing males in the womb and blocking natural hormone receptors in females."

There were a few things about the samples though that I didn't like. The detergent samples did not come with any sort of instructions, you had to check the website to see how much to use per load. Also, the detergent sample packs were not resealable. So in order to keep your detergent fresh and smelling good, you would need to transfer it to a ziplock bag or air tight container!

This stuff smells amazing, and really gets the job done! Now, my cloth diapers didn't come out smelling like Birthday cake, but did come out smelling fresh, clean and lovely! The Laundry Tarts also offer a few other yummy smelling scents such as Apple pie, bubble gum, Black forest cake, key lime pie, pina colada, rootbeer float and strawberry shortcake!

Buy it! You can purchase The Laundry Tarts directly from Nature Bumz! (prices shown in Canadian currency)
Strip It is $14.00, Sweet Spot Stain Remover Stick $5.97, The detergent (72 loads) for $21.95!

Molly's Suds (cloth diaper safe) Laundry Powder and All Sport review and #GIVEAWAY {US only}

It all started a few months back, when I won a bottle of Molly's Suds Dog Wash in a Facebook contest! I used it on our yellow Labrador Kassey and it was amazing! She came out so clean and fresh smelling! Then I discovered the Molly's Suds was more than just an awesome wash for your dog, but they also made cloth diaper friendly laundry powder! I contacted Molly's Suds to satisfy my curiosity, and I was sent a bag of Molly's Suds laundry powder and a bottle of Molly's Suds All Sport for my review. This is what I received:
Why the All Sport you ask? Well, I don't use it on my cloth diapers, but do use it on my hubby's ACU's
The humidity here in TN makes you sweat the moment you walk out the door. So you can imagine what a 180 lb, 6ft man wearing these ACU's everyday comes home like every evening. Kinda like he just ran a marathon lol!
So if you've seen my Youtube video (and entered to win some cloth diapers just by commenting on the video) you know just how much I LOVE doing laundry!
So I couldn't wait to try out these two new products! I used the Laundry powder on both my cloth diapers and my regular clothes. My diapers were on the line drying at the moment, so I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of them being washed, but I did take some pictures of my regular clothes while using the powder.
The Laundry Powder is HE safe BUT you don't add it to the dispenser, instead (as per the instructions on the bag) you add a scoop (1 TBSP) directly to the load of clothes.

I stopped the cycle half way through to take a picture, and this is what I found:
Can you see how dingy and dirty the surrounding water is? It's amazing. The last time I had results like this was when I rocked an overnight soak in Rockin Green!!
I LOVE Molly's Suds!
Why??
Well, first of all, I love that all their ingredients are clearly listed on each product. There is no guessing game as to what is in them. Also, Molly's Suds uses all-natural ingredients. They make a strong point to never use any toxic ingredients such as sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate (SLS/SLES), phosphates, parabens, formaldehyde, petroleum, Benzene, linear alkyl benzene sulfonates (LAS), 1,4-dioxane (all of which are harmful and some are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors)!
The Laundry Powder contains:
Sodium Carbonate (natural stain remover), Sodium Bicarbonate, Epsom Water (water softener), Sea Salt (stain removal), and organic peppermint oil:
While the detergent states that it is  fragrance-free, when I opened the bag, I found myself delighted by the smell of peppermint emitting from the bag! It was wonderful. Then I contacted Molly's Suds due to the delightful smell and the package stating "fragrance-free." This is the conversation that took place:
Me: "I'm getting ready to post the review and giveaway buy have a few questions. The detergents (both the all sport and the laundry powder) do not specify that they are HE compatible. Can you please clarify on this? I have an HE machine and have used them both with no problems. Also, on the detergent it says its fragrance free on the packaging but I noticed that the detergent smells like peppermint (also lists peppermint on the label as an ingredient)! So, its advertised as fragrance free, but smells like peppermint! I love the scent! Just want to make sure I get my 'facts' straight before posting the review!
Thanks"
Molly's Suds: "Thank you for asking!
The Laundry Powder is high efficiency safe but the directions state to add the laundry powder directly to the machine's tub. It's important not to put it in the dispenser. Our All Sport is also high efficiency safe and CAN be added directly into the dispenser.
Our products are all fragrance free. This is one more reason why our
Products are truly natural. Remember fragrance is synthetic and neurotoxic. It's a phthalate. "Phthalates: This class of chemicals has been linked to hormone disruption, which can affect development and fertility. Although some phthalates are being phased out of cosmetics under consumer pressure, diethyl phthalate (DEP) is still used in many products, including fragrance."we add organic peppermint oil to our natural earthen minerals. While it does have a scent it is completely fragrance free. It's important People understand what fragrance is when looking for natural products. Thank you and please feel free to ask me anything else you'd like to !!"
Wow! How awesome for a company to answer my questions so quickly and so thoroughly! I love it when a company stands behind their product 100% and will make the extra effort to answer the questions in such a thorough manner. Want to try Molly's Suds laundry powder? You can request a sample (1 load) for only $1.00! Did I also mention that they sell wool dryer balls? I'm goin to need to try these next!
Anyhow! The All Sport is also AWESOME! Used it for several weeks before my hubby deployed and his uniforms came out smelling so fresh I was amazed!
The main reason I LOVE Molly's Suds and everything about this mom-owned business can be found here! If you've ever wondered about fluoride in the water, BPA, toxic chemicals that surround us every day, please take 5 minutes and read about all those topics from the viewpoint of a pediatric nurse, you will be glad you did!!
You can purchase a bag (128 loads worth) of Laundry Powder directly from Molly's Suds for only $21.00! The All Sport retails for $12.00! Molly's Suds offers a flat rate shipping fee of $5.00!
So, to celebrate cloth diaper safe laundry powder, and the vision and mission of Molly's Suds (to remove all toxic chemicals that surround us daily) the kind folks over at Molly's Suds have generously offered to sponsor a giveaway! 1 winner will receive a bag of Molly's Suds Laundry Powder, and 1 will receive a bottle of All Sport!

Eco-Friendly Swim Suits for Mama?? Yes Please!! Eco Swim swimsuit by Aqua Green Review and #GIVEAWAY {world-wide}

I love summertime! I LOVE BBQ's long summer nights, spending time with family and friends and also all things water! I grew up on the west coast where I was only an hour and a half from the beautiful beach and 2 hours drive from Mt. Hood! I really miss the ocean. The last time I went to the ocean was about 2 years ago we went to Ocean City NJ! It was nice, the water was awesome, but it was very touristy (if that's a word)! I personally like the more quiet, secluded beaches. I love to take my boys to the pool and water parks now that it's hot out! They are my little water babies and I LOVE it! Totally fearless of the water, but respectful at the same time.

So I've had the same swimsuit for the last 3 years (I know, lame huh)? I bought it right after I had my first son and so needless to say, a new swimsuit was way over due. Being that I am trying to reduce my carbon footprint in every area of our lives, I decided purchasing a new swimsuit was not different!
Then I heard about Eco Swim by Aqua Green swimsuits! You see, Eco Swim is unlike any other swimsuit you may find. Why? Well, because each suit is made from recycled material, making this swimsuit the most sustainably responsible on the market. Eco Swimsuits don't just have an eco-friendly brand name, but the company also takes steps to reduce the carbon footprints that are damaging our earth.
Eco swim frequently participates in beach clean-ups, and is a member of the Oceanic Society whose primary mission is to protect endangered wildlife and preserve threatened marine habitats worldwide. The society is known for exploring and protecting the natural world. Proceeds from their dolphin adoption program in which Eco Swim participates go to research equipment and dolphin protection. Dolphins are in the waters of the Bahamas and are the subjects of a long term, non-invasive research project started in 1988!
On 9 June, 2012 Eco Swim Teamed up with Dillards and removed 276 lbs of trash from Ben T. Davis Beach in Tampa, FL!

Not only is Eco Swim by Aqua Green an amazingly eco-friendly company that not only walks the walk and are not all talk, like some 'eco-friendly' companies you find out there, but their suits are ROCKIN!
Here are some of the swimsuits you will find at Eco Swim:

I was sent the shirred tankini top and ruffle hipster bottom in black for my review!
This is what I received:
Front:
Back:
The cups are lightly lined (you can go here to see what materials are recycled to make up their beautiful suits)!
This is me in my Eco Swim suit! Dunno why I'm not smiling! :/
You can purchase the same suit I received directly from Eco Swim! The top retails for $69.00 and the bottoms for $58.00!
Oh, and did I mention that these lovely suits are all made in the USA!!
Sustainable, sexy, affordable, comfortable, pure awesomeness!
What about you, when was the last time you bought a new swimsuit for yourself?
Here is the chance for you to win one!
Eco Swim has graciously offered one LWML reader the chance to win your suit of choice right here!

Eco Vessel Stainless Steel Insulated Straw Bottle review and #GIVEAWAY {US}

It's hot here! I mean like in the 100's + almost every day! Sometimes we will get a thunderstorm at night which will bring the temps down to about 90 or so the next day! No matter the heat, I have made a vow to get my kids outside every day for at least 20 minutes. This is just a promise I made to myself and to them when they were born. I think it is really important for littles to be out and about for part of the day! It's so important to keep yourself and your littles hydrated while playing in such heat. I used to pack sippy cups and/or juice boxes for the littles and always had my Kleen Kanteen for myself. These went along to the pool or water park or wherever we would venture to, but by the time they were thirsty, our drinks would be hot, if not room-temp! This was really annoying, and so I set off to find something that would keep our drinks cold (without having to tote a cooler along)!
This search led me to Eco Vessel! Eco Vessel offers a wide variety of water bottles. They have filtration bottles, insulated steel bottles, Tritan water bottles (which are made out of a BPA-free plastic), single wall steel bottles (non-insulated), and a limited edition double wall glass bottle!
Eco Vessel also offers a bunch of cool stuff for littles such as stainless steel insulated sippy cups, stainless steel insulated straw flip bottles and stainless steel snack cups, and even a collapsible silicone lunch box!
I was so excited when Eco Vessel agreed to send me a sample for my review. I was sent 1 Summit 17 oz. straw top insulated bottle in 'lily pink' and 1 Frost 13 oz. straw top insulated bottle in 'silver express.'
This is what I received:
This is a view of the top of the Frost bottle (pictured left):

Here is the description of the 17 oz Summit bottle taken from Eco Vessel's website:

As always, our Eco Vessel Insulated Straw bottle is made from the highest quality, premium grade #304 Stainless Steel, are 100% recyclable, and of course, BPA Free. Here is the description of the 13 oz Frost bottle taken from Eco Vessel's website:

DESCRIPTION

"It's exactly what you've been waiting for! An Eco Vessel Insulated bottle made especially for kids 4 and up! This bottle uses our same Insulation Technology as our others, so your child can keep drinks cold all day, and it is made with a top specially designed for easier drinking through our easy-sip straw. The drinking spout is made of tightly bonded TPR material, so it is not only stronger and won't fall off in your child's lunch bag, but it's safe, too! With five different designs to choose from and the quality you've come to expect from Eco Vessel, this bottle is sure to make your life easier, and your child's more fun.
•Vacuum Insulation Technology and two walls of high grade steel will keep your child's drink cold for hours!
•Easy-Drinking Flip Straw Top includes a strong carrying loop
•BPA free, made from 100% recyclable materials
•ONLY for Children 4 and Older, Lifetime Warranty."

These bottles are GREAT! They really keep your cold drinks cold! I would recommend them to anyone I know! However I did experience a bit of a problem with the kid's bottle (the 13 oz Frost bottle) at no fault to Summit or the bottle's design. You see, my 4 yo son is a chewer. He likes to put things in his mouth and chew away!
While we were driving home from the playground one day I noticed it was unusually quiet in the backseat. As we stopped at a red light I looked back to discover my son joyfully chewing away on the straw of his new Eco Vessel! I snagged it out of his hands and realized at home that he had totally ruined the straw top to his bottle:
Since this bottle is designed for kids ages 4 and up, the silicone straw cap does not come off, as it does with the Summit bottle (intended for kids 8 and up)! It is stuck to the bottle in order to prevent posing a chocking hazard. I contacted Eco Vessel to ask if there was a replacement top that I could purchase. They directed me to the adult bottle replacement tops (which the silicone straw can be removed). Eco Vessel informed me that many parents simply use the adult top and take the silicone piece off an let the kids simply use the hard piece that is located underneath the silicone straw:

Or you can enter to win a set here!
Eco Vessel has generously offered one LWML reader the chance to win a 13 oz ($21.95) and 17 oz ($24.95) stainless steel set in winner's choice of color!

Do you use paper towels? Do you use paper napkins? I admit, we have been using both for a long time. But in an ongoing effort to reduce our carbon footprint, I've decided to go paper towel-less! Yes, that's right, no more disposable paper towels, or napkins for us! This is where People Towels come in!
Here is a bit of information about People Towels (taken from the People Towels website):

"What are PeopleTowels?

People Towels are the newest concept in sustainability, and the latest in eco-chic fashion. An on-the-go, sustainable alternative to paper towels in public facilities, these reusable personal hand towels are made of a patent-pending fabric that’s 100% certified organic Fair Trade cotton. The light-weight fabric is absorbent, yet dries quickly.

PeopleTowels are printed with eco-friendly dyes, and come in a variety of designs to appeal to different tastes and styles. Convenient hangtags even allow you to clip or loop your PeopleTowels to your backpack, belt buckle or purse.

PeopleTowels are machine washable and will last for years. The towels will soften and fade slightly after repeated washings. You may see slight variations in the towels"

I was so excited when I found out about People Towels, and even more excited when they sent me a 2-day supply in the "Heart set" for my review!
This is what I received:

A picture of the back of the towels, I love that they have that little loop, it's perfect for hanging on my kitchen cabinet for fast drying:
It even comes with a cute little 'eco-sac'

Why I love People Towels!
This is not just a company that has come up with a product to sell to make a profit. On the contrary, this is a company with a mission, to reduce the carbon footprint, we all leave on the earth!
I LOVE these towels. They are awesome, not to mention very chic!
They are made with 100% certified organic fare-trade cotton and are printed with eco-friendly dyes!
These towels are perfect for the diaper bag (think sticky fingers from the ice cream, simply get wet and wipe away). They are also great for wiping little one's faces (think runny nose)! I have used these towels in a variety of situations and I have been impressed with the quality of these towels every time!

You can even use them for a cloth wipe, though I'm not sure I'd like to smear poo all over that beautiful design (art work really)!
See for yourself some of the other chic designs:

You can purchase these awesome reusable towels directly from the People Towels website! A 2 day supply retails for only $15.99! One of you will win your very own 2 day supply of People Towels in winner's choice of design!
